The book presents the six years of experience of REC in the transboundary cooperation in three pilot territories with exceptional natural heritage: West Stara Planina between Bulgaria and Serbia, Skadar Lake between Albania and Montenegro and Neretva Delta between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe – Bulgaria published brochure and CD-ROM about the integration of the biodiversity protection aspects in the process of SEA at the end of 2006. Publications are made within Strengthening the Capacity of the Bulgarian Environmental Authorities and SEA experts in the application of the SEA in the Context of Integration of the Biodiversity Aspects into the SEA Procedures Project.

The new REC brochue "Old Mountain - New Bridges" describes briefly the achievements of the transboundary project "West Stara Planina" in the last five years and the opportunities for the future development of the transboundary cooperation in the region.

The present report is developed within Greening EU Funds Project. The project has been implemented by the REC for CEE’s Environmental Policy and Local Initiatives Programme since January 2006 and will finish in December 2006. The project objective is the further support for bringing better understanding of environmental aspects of EU funds for the new member states.

The report is published by Worldwatch Institute and GTZ GmbH. Sponsors of the edition are German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development; German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Protection, and Nuclear Safety.

In July 2006 the Bulgarian office of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe published a brochure entitled Access to Water Related Information: Legislation and Internet Sources. The publication is produced under the Enhancing Access to Information and Public Participation in Environmental Decision-Making Project, Component 3.4 of the Danube Regional Project.

New tourist map of West Stara Planina was published under the transboundary project "West Stara Planina". The map shows the tourist trails in the region, the attractions and the contacts of the tourist information centers. Such map has not been published for this region for more than 30 years.

In May 2006, REC for CEE – CO Bulgaria published a Manual for Development of Municipal Waste Management Plans. The Manual is intended to facilitate the efforts of Bulgarian municipalities in the implementation of national policies and programs for waste management in compliance with the priorities set forth by national institutions and the forthcoming EU membership. The Manual is developed in close partnership with experts from the Waste Management Directorate at the Ministry of Environment and Water, with the financial support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Japan Special Fund.
